Will blood give more accurate results than a cheek swab for a DNA test?

Since DNA is the same in every cell of the human body, the accuracy of a buccal swab is equal to taking an actual blood sample. Scientists actually prefer buccal swabs over blood samples, since the process for extracting DNA from buccal swabs is much easier. Buccal swabs are non-invasive and therefore, have become a far easier and more comfortable method to collect DNA than blood samples. There are no needles required, so you will feel more at ease, which is highly effective considering the ample stress that surrounds DNA testing.

Does the mother have to be included in a Paternity DNA test?

Paternity DNA tests already provide a conclusive result with 99.9% accuracy but including the biological mother simply strengthens the DNA test results probabilities. Thanks to the extended markers, it is not required, but strongly recommended for Paternity DNA testing and even for siblingship, grandparentage and other family relationship DNA tests.

Can I get a Paternity DNA Test if the alleged father is deceased?

Yes, many times the medical examiner will provide a blood card for the deceased. We create a case for your paternity test and have the blood card sent directly to our laboratory. The other participants can be tested by a simple cheek swab. The next of kin on the birth certificate or family member with power of attorney for the deceased will need to complete a consent form and provide their identification as well. If the there is no specimen available for the deceased, there are other DNA tests available like a siblingship test, avuncular or grandparentage. Contact us for more information.

What if I need to test more than one child or alleged father?

Certain situations require that more than one alleged Father is tested or multiple children need to be included in a Paternity DNA test. Prove It offers a simple add-on solution to have multiple individuals tested at the time of your DNA test. Prove It is flexible and will work with any situation, including different appointment days and times for children, alleged Fathers and mothers, out-of-state collections and more.

What if the alleged father does not want to be tested – can I test a relative?

Yes, depending on your unique situation, we can administer another family relationship DNA test like the Aunt/Uncle, Siblingship, or Grandparentage to determine the family relationship. Please call 888-927-7683 to speak with a DNA specialist.

If I get an informational (non-legal) Paternity test, can I notarize the results to make it court-admissible?

No, the results from an informational Paternity DNA test cannot be notarized after results are received. Court-admissible, or notarized results, must go through a process using a Chain of Custody and be notarized by the laboratory. If you foresee requiring DNA results for legal matters, we recommend taking a court-admissible test from the start to avoid additional costs.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, we offer different payment plans depending on the type of DNA test being administered. For every payment plan, an agreement must be signed and a credit card provided to be kept on file. For prenatal (pre-birth) DNA tests, we do offer customized payment plans. Please call 888-927-7683 for more information.

Can I get a paternity test before the baby is born?

Yes, this is called a Prenatal, or Pre-Birth, Paternity DNA Test. The expecting mother must be at least 9 weeks along. The test utilizes the latest technology and is non-invasive with no risk to the baby. To administer the prenatal DNA test, a simple blood draw is taken from the mother and a cheek swab to obtain a saliva specimen is taken from the alleged father. Payment plans are available.
